PATIENT Name: Puppy Age: 8 weeks years Breed: Great Pyrenese SYMPTOMS The puppy presented for a piece of metal stuck in his mouth and possibly sticking down his throat. He was brought in by the owner's neighbor. The neighbor had seen the puppy chewing on a pile of chain link fence earlier that morning and later heard him crying. After the neighbor got close to the puppy it was discovered that he had a long piece of metal, probably from the chain link fence, sticking out of his mouth. The neighbor was unable to remove it and brought the puppy to Colonial Park, as the puppy's owner was not home at the time. RADIOLOGY (more info) Radiographs show, fortunately, the metal did not extend down the puppy's throat. ![]() ![]() SURGERY (more info) After anesthetizing the puppy, Dr. Bomar and Dr. Allen successfully removed the thick piece of metal from his mouth. It had pierced completely through his tongue. The puppy's tongue was then sutured to repair the hole left by the metal. ![]() ![]() OUTCOME He was able to return home with his owner that same afternoon. ![]() | |||
